Kellea Miller

Pronouns: She/Her/Hers

Bio: Dr. Kellea Miller is a feminist researcher and advocate for human rights globally. For the past fifteen years, she has worked in social justice organizations, including Global Fund for Women, UN Women, Astraea Foundation, Mama Cash and AWID, and currently serves as Deputy Director of the Human Rights Funders Network.


Kellea holds a PhD in Sociology and a BA in Public Policy & Feminist Studies. In her spare time, she teaches self-defense, lazily forages for fruit around Nevada City, and frolics with her kids.


Kirsten Dees
Vice President

Pronouns: She/Her/Hers

Bio: Kirsten Dees is a Northern California native who moved to Grass Valley in 2019. She holds a Master's in Social Work from Boston University, a B.S. in Child and Family Development San Diego State University, and is a Certified Life Coach through The Life Coach School. Over the past 12 years her professional focus has been in non-profit fundraising which has included working for the Massachusetts Immigrant and Refugee and Advocacy Coalition, The Washington State Democratic Campaign Committee, and Planned Parenthood of The Great Northwest.  Currently, Kirsten has her own Life Coaching practice and works for the Nevada County Department of Public Health. In her free time she enjoys spending time with her partner and two young kids.

Beth Bordner

Pronouns: She/Her/Hers

Bio: Beth Bordner has extensive experience in non-profit operations, having handled the financial, administrative and HR management for several organizations, including her previous employment at CBV, and serving on numerous boards over the course of nearly two decades. Most of her non-profit work has been with organizations engaged in environmental conservation and Beth is currently the Operations & Finance Manager for Blue Forest Conservation. Beth holds a BA in Anthropology & Public Policy from Pomona College. 

As an outdoor enthusiast and life-long equestrian, Beth spends her leisure time hiking or horseback riding around the beautiful Sierra Nevada foothills. She has two grown children and shares her homestead with her partner and a small herd of horses.

Paul Johnson

Pronouns: He/His/Him

Bio: Paul graduated from UC Berkeley in 2005 then UC Hastings School of Law in 2008. Currently, Paul serves as managing attorney for Sierra Nevada Regional DCSS. Prior to his current position, Paul worked in criminal defense, dependency law, and juvenile law. He also served various public agencies in the areas of water rights law, environmental law, public agency law, and civil litigation. From 2013 until 2017, Paul served as the Board President of Community Legal. Paul has also volunteered as a whitewater raft guide for Environmental Traveling Companions, a non-profit organization that provides adaptive, outdoor-recreation opportunities for people with disabilities and disadvantaged youth. Paul loves exploring outdoors and studying issues that affect public lands in the West. Paul is grateful for the opportunity to serve the Community in his role with CBV.

Clint Lovelady




Claire McAdams

Pronouns: She/Her/Hers

Bio: Claire McAdams is the Managing Partner of Headgate Partners LLC, the financial advisory consulting firm she founded in 2005.  A former investment banker, Claire brings over 25 years of experience advising executives and boards in all matters related to corporate finance, including fundraising and capital allocation strategies, strategic financial communications, the capital markets, and mergers and acquisitions. Claire has been an advisor to company management on over 50 financings and M&A transactions, which altogether total over $10 billion in value.  She enjoys working with several technology companies from her home office in Nevada City.

Claire holds a BA in Economics and Literature from Claremont McKenna College. She has been grateful to serve on the CBV board since early 2019, and Claire also has served her community through her time as president of Nevada Union Debate Boosters. In her free time, she loves spending time outdoors with her two teenaged children, who enjoy scuba diving in Hawaii, skiing at Sugar Bowl, stand-up paddle boarding at Scotts Flat, and wake surfing at Bullards Bar.

Tine Mathiasen


Tine's WHY: As a former childhood client of an organization similar to CBV, I deeply value the work that this organization does for our community, especially the difference it makes in the lives of local children. I also value a strong sense of connectivity between our community's wonderful non-profits and our private and public sectors, and I want to do my part to keep these relationships dynamic and effective. As a board member, I'm able to lend my talents and energy to support this organization and its staff in fostering the vibrant and healthy community it envisions.


Bio: Tine has worked in the public sector for the County of Nevada since 2015 and serves the community by providing support to the county governing body and the public. Tine delights in the particulars of governance and recognizes the many ways in which the alignment of statute and values/vision/mission can drive an organization. Tine holds a BA in Leadership Studies from Humboldt State, where she fostered a love of program development, project management, and strategic planning and forecasting. Tine is also passionate about youth recreation and loves playing around with kids of all ages.

Amanda Welvaert

Pronouns: She/Her/Hers

Bio: Amanda is a long time local to Nevada County. She works as a Physician Assistant in Family Practice medicine. Amanda studied at Menlo College and UC Davis. She has a strong and growing interest in social justice and finds herself volunteering in these areas. In her free time she likes cooking for her loved ones, reading, hiking, camping, skiing, paddling and traveling. Amanda loves comedy, has an irrational fear of moths.
